Problem: Need long-term, unattended, ultra-high sensitivity monitoring of nuclear explosions using radioxenon signatures

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Sensors and Devices through Integrated Systems

PNNL Solution:

  • Developed automatic separation of xenon from other air constituents
  • Ultrahigh radioxenon detection sensitivity (Best in the world!!!)
  • Developed and demonstrated integrated system capable of long-term unattended monitoring

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Coincident radiation detection, gas phase separations, system automation.
